So you want to be a Stage Hypnotist.....

As most of you who read this periodical regularly, or know me personally, are witness to
the fact that  I am staunchly opposed to the so called “Stage Hypnosis schools and courses”. You know the ones, for a huge fee and maybe 3 days of your life, they promise that you will be a competent stage hypnotist and become wealthy almost overnight.  These are the schools who churn out anyone who has the resources to pay their tuition, regardless of the level of skill one might or might not possess.  I liken them to puppy mills, churning out puppies for the love of the money, not the quality of the breed.  And so it goes with these “hypnosis schools”.  Hypnotists who “graduate” from these institutions are often no better off after the course than they were before, just considerably lighter in the wallet.  Indeed, they often perform a gig and something goes wrong, maybe no one goes under.  They feel hurt and confused and the client feels ripped off and in all likelihood will not hire a stage hypnotist again.  We all lose from these situations.  A good hypnotist is not born over 3 days; it takes practice, experience and talent that cannot be purchased, rather they can only be learned over time.

Over the last several months, I have had many phone calls from earnest folks who want to be stage hypnotists asking if I offer a course.  I always tell them no, and give them the advice that most of the schools are a worthless waste of time and money.  With the volume of calls and emails I have been getting recently, it has me thinking about this.  I am considering offering a one day class for those people who would like real exposure to the world of stage hypnosis.  This wouldn't be a miracle class, as I've said over and over again, you learn by experience; but I want to teach a class with a different spin on the topic.  The materials I would like to cover, among the basics, will deal with how to handle the awkward situations, the unforeseen horrors that can pop up, the different markets (corporate world, fairs, grad nights, etc), personalities, stage presence, fees and contracts, expense tracking and marketing techniques to name but a few.  I want to put my twenty plus years of experience to good use.  I never thought I would offer a course such as this, but my wife suggested that I share my experiences and knowledge with those who have not had the exposure I have gained over the years, and by doing so, help the hypnosis community for the better

If you do participate in this intense, one day seminar you will not make $10,000.00 a show or $100,000.00 a year, but you will get a good idea if stage hypnosis is for you and what it takes to become a good stage hypnotist.  The class will be held tentatively sometime in late May in the San Francisco Bay Area of California.
